General Assembly programs

Full-time and part-time General Assembly programs for business, coding, design, data, marketing and product management are available online or at one of the 20 General Assembly campuses around the globe. All General Assembly courses are taught by leading industry experts who provide hands-on learning experiences for their students.

On-campus class sizes are capped at 25 students and online courses can have up to 30 students. The average student-teach ratio is 8:1 on General Assembly campuses. In addition to education opportunities for individuals, General Assembly also provides business solution services like talent acquisition and upskilling existing staff for corporations.

  • General Assembly full-time programs: Full-time, immersive courses at General Assembly include software engineering, user experience design, data science and digital marketing. Software Engineering Immersive
Students learn foundational education of computer algorithms, data structures and design structures. General Assembly course cost ranges from $750–$15,950 depending on the topic and length of the class. General Assembly accepts check, bank wire, credit and debit cards, and Paypal for tuition and fee payments. After a minimum down payment is submitted to secure your spot in a course, you can choose to pay in installments.

General Assembly admissions

All General Assembly courses are offered on a rolling basis with an admissions deadline of 24 hours before the first class meeting. To apply for a part-time General Assembly course, you simply need to complete an online application and have a phone interview with an admissions representative. For full-time or immersive courses, the application process is more involved.

  1. Submit a General Assembly application online.
  2. If selected, a General Assembly admissions specialist will evaluate your experience and goals during a phone interview.
  3. If applying for a full-time or immersive course, you must complete an admissions assessment to ensure you’re prepared for the curriculum. Some applicants might need to submit their previous work at this time.
  4. Full-time applicants then interview with an alumnus or instructor to determine if the program is a good fit. Some applicants might be asked to submit a readiness assessment or document their pre-requisite experiences.
  5. Once you meet all requirements, a General Assembly admissions representative will confirm your admission approval.
  6. Approved applicants must make a deposit payment to secure their course, and full tuition must be paid before the end of a course to receive a certificate of completion.

General Assembly scholarships

General Assembly scholarships are available for low-income adults and those who are part of underrepresented communities in tech. General Assembly also works with financing partners to provide loan options for some students. Through the Catalyst Program, some students are eligible to enroll in immersive courses at no up-front cost, then pay back their tuition in monthly installments after they get a job.

Is General Assembly worth it?

The General Assembly price could be worth it if you’re determined to learn a new coding, design, data, marketing or product management skillset, but need some flexibility — part-time and full-time courses are available online and at 20 campuses. Overall, General Assembly boasts over 35,000 global alumni, 250 expert instructors and 2,500 hiring partners. Still, future employment is not guaranteed and students will get out of the courses what they put into them, whether it’s a General Assembly coding bootcamp or an online circuit for short-form digital marketing.

As of 2022 the lessons are outdated, lacking in depth and overall very poorly taught. The instructors do not have any education on teaching what-so-ever, none of them have your best interest in mind and they only care about getting the most money out of you. They will fail you in the last week with-out hesitation for the absolute smallest infraction and they will always base these decisions on presumptions without admitting any mistakes when proven wrong. The success rate for job-placement is very misleading and is actually only "4 weeks of employment". Don't be fooled, it's a scam..

GE-brand free-standing French door refrigerators. The freezer handle can detach when a consumer tries to open the freezer drawer, posing a fall hazard to the consumer. I have had a repair person come out twice to fix the recalled freezer handle and it still falls off when pulling to open freezer. The second time repair came out he implied it was how I was pulling the drawer???? Very disappointed in GE recall warranty.

    If you can learn by yourself from YouTube then this is a good course for you. Classes start with full-day presentations (No different than recorded videos) none stop from 9am to 5pm, then on the third day you have to turn in your project and if your project is not good enough, you are out.(Just like that). There is zero one on one or individual attention, (There is not even any time for it). Classes are around 20-25 students with one instructor and a student from past course as an assistant. Instructors had full-time UX jobs on the side, so you can imagine how much extra time he could give to 20 students, zero). Just staying on schedule was a big deal for them. I would recommend it only if you are a self-learner, so you can watch the presentations like any recorded video.

    This review is for the the 9k full stack software engineer by GA in London. Really hard review. I will split it into sectors so you can decide yourselves if it is a good or a bad course as I am not sure what it was yet....

    1. Course itself - (10/10). Nice, up-to-date course, well structured with tutors that had a very nice chemistry between them and they knew what they were talking about. Charlotte was the lead one and I think it was the best tutor I had in my life. Really struggling to think of a better one I had. And had many.

    2. Management - (5/10). In the end of the course I tried to talk to them about the job support and the ignored me. Amateurs at least.

    3. Job support - (0/10). When you pay 9k I was expecting they will have a fair amount of tech companies they will be working with them and they will be recruiting from them. That what I was told. However that wasn't the case... When you finish the course you are all alone to find a job. To make things worse I was dropped from the job support course. I paid 9k and they refused to look at my CV... and guess what. I think I am the 1st and only one who found a job from that class so far... People you run the job support are Clowns! They are recruits and have no idea about coding!!!

    4. % of employment after you finish course: don't be fooled. They offer you a 2-4 weeks job with them and they count you as you have been employed!! Sneaky!!!! Reality is that you still don't have a job after 2 weeks right?

    5. Conclusion: Do I recommend them or not? I am not sure. I didn't like them! But then I found a job because of them... Hard to say!

    When I signed up for the General Assembly Data Science Immersive I was told that the Data Science field is very understaffed and therefore companies will hire you for jobs as a Data Scientist even if you don't have the necessary degrees. I was also told that completing this course would get you JOB READY for these jobs. The course is demanding, a lot of hard work goes into it, however, actual Data Science positions require skills that are just impossible to master in only 12 weeks regardless of how much you work towards it. Other positions like Data Engineer and Data Analyst have less requirements but the skills required for those roles are barely touched on in this course as it mainly focuses on Machine Learning which is more Data Scientist specific.

    As I expressed these concerns to the school towards the end of the cohort I was told that this was a bit more of a high level course covering a variety of topics in the Data Science field and that one could choose what to delve into deeper from there, this definitely was NOT what was advertised to begin the cohort. So I kind of felt like this was a bit scammy, basically after I'm locked in an income share agreement for the next four years I started to realize that it was not going to make me job ready, and only at that point did they acknowledge that the "job ready based on coursework" line that had been fed to applicants by the recruiters was basically **.

    When they sent out the syllabus prior to the cohort it mentioned Hive and Hadoop which we literally did not touch at all during the cohort, we had a brief exposure to Spark and SQL, but only a few days, after which we were considered to have "learned that material". You don't learn SQL in a few days. Honestly the whole thing was more of a collection of surface level instructionals on just about everything that was covered. You do get a significant amount of hands on practice with Machine Learning and Pandas, but other than that this course is just not enough to make you job ready for anything.

    The instructional staff was very helpful but I feel like they were also crunched for time and often unable to get things done in the necessary time frame. Things such as uploading videos, grading, etc. took longer than they should have because quite frankly they had too much on their plates. The outcomes program has been the most solid aspect of the course, but ultimately considering the cost of the course it is not enough to justify the price. The course moves at such a fast pace that you really don't have time to make corrections based on feedback. This course is only good for certain people who are trying to become Data Scientists. It would probably be good for the following:

    1. People with degrees (usually advanced degrees) in Statistics, Computer Science, etc.
    2. People who are already experienced Software Developers but want to transition to Data Science.

    3. People who are in other data roles like Data Analyst or Data Engineer who want to become Data Scientists.

    Ultimately, this course would more appropriately be named a Machine Learning course as that is the only area of Data Science that it adequately covers. I was probably naive to have believed the recruiters who assured me that only having an Associate's Degree would not make me a bad fit for this course. I have been applying to Data Analyst and Data Scientist positions since finishing the program and have not gotten a single response from a Data Scientist Position, I have gotten a couple interviews for Data Analyst Positions but as of yet nothing has panned out.

    My recommendation would be to do another program that focuses on skills more appropriate to Data Analyst or Data Engineering positions. These skills could be taught through a 12 week immersive experience much more adequately than Machine Learning, Neural Networks, and Deep Learning. Data Analyst positions require less demanding educational standards. Data Engineering positions usually require academic backgrounds in between the requirements for Data Analyst and Data Scientist, but the material/technologies required to become a Data Engineer are not as mathematically complex as those required to become a Data Scientist so you would have a better chance at getting hired as a Data Engineer based purely on a demonstrated understanding of the technologies than you would in a Data Scientist role.

    I hope this was helpful, if you don't have at least a bachelor's degree DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. Even if you have a bachelor's degree don't take it unless your degree is in statistics, math, computer science or something similar. The name General Assembly is NOT necessarily going to help your resume, it will look better than only having done Youtube instructionals and self-study courses like Udemy, but it will not really get you any recognition in the job search. You'd be better of trying to tackle a subject with lower hiring standards like Software Developer, Data Analyst, or maybe even Data Engineer, there are bootcamps for all of those in various schools, but this one just doesn't get you job ready for anything.

    It is very expensive and my teacher Annika ** kept of rescheduling classes or not being able to make it, it was very unprofessional and disappointing. Also was not able to secure a job after class ended and there wasn't much support from GA or Annika to help get a job after! I was unfortunate because of my teacher as I was hearing students from other classes having good experiences and being able to get jobs after course. Everyone in my class was disadvantaged and it is proven as no one in my class has a job in what we studied. Extremely unhappy.

    Before making my decision to take the course, I reviewed the curriculum heavily. But sadly this is not what was delivered. I signed up for a 12 week course, the instructors thought that it was a 10 week course and only prepared that much. There were units and content that was skipped like UX writing, content strategy, and technical constraints.

    Additionally one the instructors seems highly prejudice, after learning that my background was software engineering, he has more than once told me "engineers have problems with empathy, and I should look at product design instead of UX". This tends to be in response to me expressing concerns that as UX designers are about identifying pain points and solving it we should have more focus on solutions than just wireframes. But even if it was a founded statement in my case, my background as an engineer would be irrelevant to whether I am having problems with understanding the empathy in the situation.

    My granddaughter is home schooled and it has done wonders for her. She has a couple of teachers that call her once or twice a week to update her on her work, etc. She spends a few hours on her computer each day. She loves home schooling.

    I attended the part time 10 weeks course of Data Analytics in GA Sydney in 2017. The instructor was great, very talented and knew his job excellent. My complain is about 2 things: 1- I had a one on one session before enrollment to ensure this course is good for me, and your adviser told me it is, considering the fact that it's a very expensive course (4500$), I wasted all of money! This course was far beyond my knowledge, I could not cope with the topics covered. 2 - I raised this issue in the middle of the course with again another adviser, to let me stop the training, and continue a more basic one, she said NO! it's not possible. So I finished the course, but honestly just wasted my money and time, gained nothing out of this course, so won't recommend you to anyone!
